Announcing new round of funding to promote Internet resiliency in disaster response

We are thrilled to announce a new round of funding for our Resiliency Grant Program, which supports projects that ensure local communities are prepared to deploy, maintain, and repair Internet infrastructure and restore connectivity in areas affected by natural disasters.

Grants ranging from USD $250,000 to $500,000 will be awarded for projects lasting up to 24 months relating to Internet resiliency.

During natural disasters such as earthquakes or cyclones, Internet connectivity becomes essential for both impacted communities and those involved in emergency response efforts.

In the program’s three previous editions, grantees have deployed equipment, established connectivity, and provided training to communities in 41 countries.

“By increasing network resiliency, deploying Internet equipment, and building local capacity, communities can better prepare for and withstand the effects of natural disasters on Internet connectivity,” stated Maiko Nakagaki, Senior Program Officer. “These grants will help communities re-establish Internet connectivity when needed and strengthen preparedness to handle future emergencies.”

Organizations currently implementing projects worldwide through our Resiliency grant program include SubOptic Foundation, Digital Empowerment Foundation, Allied Media Projects in partnership with Community Tech NY, Atma Connect, Instituto Nupef, and Rhizomatica Communications.

The Resiliency program will accept applications between June 11 and July 30, 2024. The application period closes at 21:00 UTC on July 30, 2024. Applications must meet eligibility requirements to be considered. Please refer to our Eligibility and Alignment requirements.
