At the Internet Society Foundation, we focus on funding initiatives that strengthen the Internet in function and reach so that it can effectively serve all people. Our work advances the mission and vision of the Internet Society (ISOC): The Internet is For Everyone.

To this end, we support efforts to ensure that the Internet is open, globally-connected, secure, and trustworthy. We champion the use of the network as a critical technical infrastructure that can bring communities better education, healthcare and economic opportunity among other important areas of focus. Driven by core values of diversity and inclusion, we catalyze partnerships with organizations large and small to amplify voices and stimulate action. We believe that by working together, we can use the Internet to shape a better future for us all and positively impact humanity worldwide.

The Internet Society Foundation was launched in February 2019, and shortly thereafter announced a call for grant applications to ISOC’s Chapters and Special Interest Groups, a programme known as Beyond the Net.

The Foundation has since expanded its offerings to offer funding for more programmes that align with our values.

Focus Areas

We help Internet Society Chapters around the world implement local and regional projects that advance the vision of the Internet is for everyone.

We expand economic growth, improve health outcomes and increase educational opportunities by supporting individuals and communities to more knowledgeably and skillfully use the Internet.

We support organizations working on projects that utilize the Internet to improve lives during or in response to an emergency situation. In 2020, the Foundation’s focus is on projects that respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, both during the immediate period of the crisis and in the aftermath.

We create opportunities to cultivate novel global research collaborations and strengthen the utility value of the Internet for all. This includes support for multi-disciplinary and integrated approaches to investigating the real or potential impact of the Internet on our society and the environment.

Building Disaster Resilient Communities (Future)

We accelerate efforts to help communities enhance preparedness and build resilience for when they are faced with adverse events such as national disasters.

Promoting Technological Innovations (Future)

We foster technological initiatives and the development of innovative technologies that accelerate Internet access.
