    OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

This project continues existing work on addressing the urgent threat of Internet disruption to Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience programming. This project targets Internet connectivity for communities in multiple counties affected by displacement, crisis, and other emergencies as well as the agencies that are working on the ground.

The project aims to use personnel and Internet connectivity equipment for first responders to increase Internet access and speed in communities facing emergencies. Additionally, the project aims to lead global advocacy and provide evidence of the crucial role of the Internet in humanitarian action.

    WHY IS THIS PROJECT IMPORTANT?

Traditional disaster response has been burdened by international logistical challenges in shipping, travel, and expert roster support to implement specialized connectivity equipment. This can result in delays in information sharing and limitations in Internet connectivity as agencies may rapidly shift locations on the ground. The project facilitates connectivity solutions in unstable network environments to provide redundancy and capacity for less robust facilities, allowing first responders to pass critical information for coordination and health care provision. The Internet plays a crucial role in information transfer in the field, and this project offers solutions to impact those on the front line of humanitarian action.

    The Internet is for Everyone

The Internet Society Foundation supports the vision of the Internet Society and its work for an open, globally-connected, secure, and trustworthy Internet for everyone.
