OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
The North Africa School of Internet Governance (NASIG), organized by the North Africa Internet Governance Forum (NAIGF), is designed to build foundational knowledge and skills in Internet governance among emerging professionals across the region. The primary objective is to develop a pool of qualified individuals capable of contributing effectively to the formulation and implementation of Internet-related policies that promote a secure, transparent, and open digital environment.
Participants are introduced to critical areas such as digital resource management, cybersecurity, human rights in the digital space, and relevant regulatory and legislative frameworks. The program also emphasizes the roles and responsibilities of regional and international organizations. Through this approach, NASIG fosters cross-sector collaboration among governments, civil society, the private sector, and academic and technical communities.
WHY IS THE PROJECT IMPORTANT?
NASIG plays a vital role in strengthening the Internet governance ecosystem in North Africa by equipping participants with the tools and knowledge needed to engage meaningfully in digital policy spaces. The program has already made significant contributions, with many alumni now actively involved in regional Internet governance processes, including the North Africa IGF Youth Forum and the NAIGF Multistakeholder Advisory Group (NA MAG).
By nurturing a new generation of informed digital leaders, NASIG helps to ensure that Internet governance in the region reflects diverse perspectives and is grounded in principles of openness, inclusivity, and sustainability. The program also reinforces regional collaboration and transparency, supported by publicly available reports and resources accessible through the NAIGF website.
