    OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

The overall goal of the project is to connect underserved communities in coastal Kenya, to enable them access to government services, educational resources, and opportunities for business engagement. The target beneficiaries include learners and teachers in public primary schools, youth living in the community, and other institutions within the respective jurisdictions. Dunia Moja Network nodes will be set up in public schools across Kilifi North Constituency. Youth from around the villages will be trained to be net wardens with a mandate to maintain the local network and extend it to other villages, educational institutions, market centers, community halls, businesses, and homes.

    WHY IS THIS PROJECT IMPORTANT?

Access to the Internet in rural and peri-urban low-resourced communities remains a challenge, and people have to travel long distances in order to do important tasks, such as applying for jobs, filing tax returns, or even revising course selections at local universities. Communities that have thus far been marginalized are also behind in economic activities and thus more vulnerable to poverty.

Network availability is also erratic, hindering long-term processes such as learning or lesson delivery. Young people in particular will benefit from this project, through the increased educational opportunities and social interactions that reliable Internet connectivity will provide.
