    OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

The Kibungo Internet Access Center (KIAC) project aims to bridge the digital divide in the Kibungo Community in Rwanda. The project will establish an Internet Access Center equipped with satellite Internet connectivity and a digital library, and provide localized educational and communication opportunities to the community members. Furthermore, the project intends to empower community members with digital skills to make  full use of the Internet by accessing information, developing their digital literacy, and finding innovative ways to use the Internet in education.

    WHY IS THIS PROJECT IMPORTANT?

The school in the community depends exclusively on the parents’ contributions, and many of them are not able to cover the fees due to financial incapacity.

This prevents the school from achieving its goals of providing basic quality education for all due to the lack of funding for digital devices and Internet connectivity. This also limits the school community from having access to online educational content material to ensure continuous learning. Due to a lack of access to quality educational content, students are not performing well in their studies, especially in the lessons that require ICT skills. Lack of adequate digital skills is also a key challenge to the community members and prevents them from capitalizing on Internet opportunities to achieve quality education. This also limits educational and communication opportunities for both students and teachers and contributes to the rise of unemployment among youth.

The projects aim to reduce this digital divide by addressing the challenges noted above.
