OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
The general objective of the project is to support teachers and learners of the THIES Academy (Thies region, particularly rural areas) to take advantage of the Internet and information and communication technologies to acquire new knowledge and take advantage of the opportunities they offer in the context of techno-pedagogy and employability. This objective is achieved through (1) the installation of SENUM clubs for using the Internet for learning and (2) supporting teachers for better use of information and communication technologies in their teaching/learning activities.
WHY IS THIS PROJECT IMPORTANT?
Students primarily use the Internet to use social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and LinkedIn for entertainment purposes. In this regard, parents and teachers often express concern about the uses of digital social networks. Furthermore, the use of computers and the Internet at school is low.
The project focuses on digital education and aims to provide teachers and students with reinforcement courses on the proper use of the Internet, coding and mathematics software. The project raises awareness about the opportunities of digital technology, how to properly use ICT and how to use digital technology to improve teaching-learning activities. The impact of the project reaches 750 people (250 teachers and school heads) and 500 students between 12 and 22 years old.
